Respiratory Therapist PRN - Respiratory Department
SMH has a PRN shift opening for a Respiratory Therapist.

Shift: PRN Position

Position Summary: Provides optimal, achievable, respiratory care that meets the needs of patients according to their classification. Promotes and participates in positive interdisciplinary relationships by working cooperatively with other departments of the hospital as specified by the STEPHENS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL organizational plan. Possesses a thorough knowledge of STEPHENS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL standards and participates in performance improvement activities.

Knowledge and Ability: Ability to participate in emergency procedures as well as all routine respiratory care as ordered by the physician. Ability to demonstrate professional skills with critical thinking, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to schedule outpatient services in an appropriate and timely manner.

Respiratory Therapist: Must have graduated from an accredited Respiratory Care Practitioners Program and maintain a current license with the Texas Department of Health. Must obtain a Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR-Healthcare Provider) card with in 6 months after your hire date. Under special circumstances one may work under the delegation and authority of medical director over the department. High School diploma or GED is preferred.

Respiratory Technician: Must have completed competencies for the skills needed to perform respiratory duties. Completed competencies of training and demonstration must be on file for each staff member not licensed to perform respiratory care. A current card for successful completion of CPR-Healthcare Provider must be obtained within 6 months after your hire date. Under special circumstances one may work under the delegation and authority of medical director over the department. High School diploma or GED is preferred.

Working Conditions: Should have no physical or mental impairment that would adversely affect patient or staff safety, and/or interfere with the performance of duties assigned. Must be able to stand/sit 90% of the time. Have full use of both hands and feet with dexterity intact. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. on a frequent basis and be able to push or pull up to 150 lbs. on an occasional basis. Occasional kneeling, bending, reaching, and twisting, will be required. Hours of work will be flexible to meet the needs of patient load and quality patient care. One will be required at be at work 15 minute prior to your scheduled hours in order to receive report from outgoing staff. Be mentally alert. Work closely with others or autonomously. All five senses must be intact or correctable to acceptable levels. Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels at intervals.

Equipment: Must be able to understand and operate all equipment used for respiratory care and testing including the handling, dispensing, and storing of therapeutic gases. Be able to have a basic knowledge of ordering respiratory supplies due to patient load.

OSHA Task Category I: Task that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.

Compliance: Responsible for abiding by all SMH policies and procedures to include the Code of Ethics and the principles and standards set forth for conducting business and affairs of SMH.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA): Responsible for abiding by all SMH policies and procedures relating to HIPAA.
